Er doet zich duidelijk een langzaam dalende trend voor in de Excess of heads grafiek. Alle autocorrelaties zijn positief en significant (er is voorspelbaarheid op basis van het verleden die niet aan het toeval te wijten is). Er is een duidelijk verband tussen de twee. Wanneer er een langzame evolutie is van het niveau is er sprake van autocorrelatie. Bij een zeer wispelturige grafiek zou er sprake zijn van negatieve autocorrelatie. Een autocorrelation plot als deze is typisch voor een stochastische lange termijn trend. We kunnen deze trend echter verwijderen uit de data door differentiatie.

De autocorrelatie toont een duidelijk langzaam dalend verloop. Alle gevonden waarden liggen boven de 95% betrouwbaarheidsinterval wat wil zeggen dat alle waarden significant verschillend van 0 zijn en dus niet te wijten zijn aan het toeval. Er is hier duidelijk sprake van een stochastische lange termijn trend. Je kunt de gevonden trend verwijderen door gebruik te maken van differentiatie.

De student heeft juiste conclusies getrokken, nl.:
- Schijnbaar negatieve trend
- Begin beurskoers relatief hoog, einde relatief laag. Hieruit kunnen we stellen dat we informatie uit het verleden hebben waardoor we een voorspelling kunnen maken.
- Positieve autocorrelatie → zeer langsaam patroon.
- Alle waarden zijn positief en significant verschillend van nul maar dalen langsaam. Dit is geen toevallig patroon. Het is een stochastische trend op lange termijn.
- Het patroon is sterk gekoppeld aan de definitie van de Random walk.

We zien hier duidelijk een stochastische langetermijn trend. We willen hier nog graag vermelden dat wanneer we deze berekeningen opnieuw zouden maken, dat we dan telkens ongeveer hetzelfde patroon zullen uitkomen. Dit kan dus niet toevallig zijn. Tevens zijn alle autocorrelatiecoëfficiënten significant verschillend van nul. Toeval is hier dus zo goed als uitgesloten.
